Where Does Zrythm Store Projects and Data?

Where Zrythm keeps its user path with projects, plugin caches, collections and logs on Linux and Windows.

Last updated

Zrythm splits state between a user path folder and per project directories. The user path holds the projects root plus plugin caches, collections and logs. Each project is a folder with a compressed project file and media pools inside.

Interface preferences live outside both, in the desktop settings store rather than flat files. That means deleting folders resets data but never the UI. Keep the user path on its default drive since the app expects it there. Audio pools travel inside project folders, never in the user path root.

Where Zrythm stores this, by platform

Linux
~/.local/share/zrythm

Default user path with Projects, plugin caches, collections and logs beneath it. Example projects sit in the Projects child. Prefs live separately in system settings.

Windows
%LOCALAPPDATA%\zrythm

Same user path contents under Local app data. Must stay on the default drive per the manual. Projects and caches mirror the Linux layout.

Frequently asked questions

What lives in the Zrythm user path versus a project folder?

The user path holds projects, cached plugin data, collections and logs in one tree. Project folders hold the project file plus pool, plugins, exports and backups beneath them. Copy both levels for a full move and keep preferences separate in system settings.

How do I reset Zrythm preferences?

Open the system settings editor for the desktop schema and reset the Zrythm keys there. The user path holds data, not options, so wiping folders never resets the interface. Back up projects first since resets touch shared plugin caches.
