Where Does Airsonic Store Its Database and Settings?
Airsonic keeps database, logs, transcoding binaries and settings in its home folder, /var/airsonic by default. Layout and backup.
Last updated
Airsonic centers on one home folder holding everything it owns: airsonic.properties for settings, a db directory with the embedded database, logs, the Lucene search index and transcoding binaries. Back up this single tree and you own the whole server state.
The default is /var/airsonic, settable with -Dairsonic.home at launch. Docker installs hide it inside the data volume instead. Edit the properties file only while stopped, through the web settings page when possible. Operate on a copy of db, since newer HSQLDB versions upgrade the format on open and old Airsonic can never read it back.
Where Airsonic stores this, by platform
/var/airsonic
Default airsonic.home with properties, db, logs and index. Override with -Dairsonic.home=/new/path. Needs write permission for the service user or startup fails.
Frequently asked questions
How do I back up my Airsonic server?
Stop the service and copy the whole airsonic.home folder, default /var/airsonic. That captures settings, the embedded database, index and logs. Music files live outside it wherever your media folders point, so back those up separately.
Where is airsonic.properties in a Docker install?
Inside the attached data volume, defaulting to /var/lib/docker/volumes/data/_data on the host. Stop the container before editing it with admin rights. Passing properties via JAVA_OPTS at docker run works as an alternative.
