Where Are AirTag Locations and Settings Stored?
AirTag locations live in the Find My Items tab under your Apple ID. Precision Finding, Lost Mode, and alerts are managed there, not in files.

An AirTag stores almost nothing itself. Its location is crowdsourced: nearby Apple devices relay encrypted sightings to iCloud, and your Find My app decrypts them under your Apple ID. The Items tab is the whole interface, with naming, sharing, alerts, and batteries alongside the map.
Sharing a tag with family keeps everyone on the same map without extra files. Separation alerts warn when you leave one behind, tuned per tag. The battery page reports a standard coin cell you swap yourself. Nothing here backs up separately; the Apple ID and its Find My data are the record.

Frequently asked questions
How do I find my AirTag?
Open Find My, tap Items, and pick the tag. The map shows its last reported position from the Find My network, with directions and a sound button. Precision Finding with on-screen arrows needs an iPhone with Ultra Wideband nearby.
How do I put an AirTag in Lost Mode?
Select the tag in Items and turn on Lost Mode with a contact number. Anyone tapping it with NFC sees the message. Location history itself stays inside Find My with no export button, so screenshot the map for records like travel claims.
