Where Are iPhone Crash Logs Stored on Computer?
iPhone crash logs sync to CrashReporter MobileDevice folders on Mac and Windows via Finder or iTunes.
Last updated
iPhone crash reports land on your computer after a sync. On Mac they sit in ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/<DEVICE_NAME>; on Windows in %APPDATA%\Apple Computer\Logs\CrashReporter\MobileDevice\<DEVICE_NAME>. Filenames start with the crashing app's name, which makes triage a sort-by-name away.
Raw logs are unsymbolicated addresses, useful mainly to developers with the matching dSYM. Xcode's Devices window automates the whole pipeline: connect, view logs, export symbolicated. Testers filing bugs should attach the raw file and let the developer symbolicate.
Where iOS stores this, by platform
~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice
Per-device subfolders with app-named .crash files. Reach Library via Go to Folder; sync with Finder first or nothing appears.
%APPDATA%\Apple Computer\Logs\CrashReporter\MobileDevice
Same per-device layout under Roaming. Sync with iTunes first. Xcode-based symbolication needs a Mac regardless.
Frequently asked questions
How do developers read these crash logs usefully?
Connect the iPhone, open Xcode's Devices window, and use View Device Logs. Xcode symbolicates addresses to function names automatically; raw .crash files from the folder need dSYMs and manual symbolication.
The MobileDevice folder is empty. Why?
Sync the device with Finder (Mac) or iTunes (Windows) first. The folders only fill on sync, so a never-synced phone leaves them empty no matter how often it crashes.
