Where Does Aldiko Store Books?

Aldiko imports ebooks into an eBooks folder on shared storage and tracks shelves in app-private data.

Last updated

Aldiko keeps your book files in an eBooks folder on shared storage and remembers shelves, positions, and bookmarks in its own database. Sideloaded books go specifically into eBooks/import, then Menu, Import pulls them onto the bookshelf organized by author.

Import everywhere: drop EPUB or PDF files into the folder and Aldiko picks them up. Books bought in the app download into the same tree. Back up the folder to a PC before wiping, since uninstalls remove the app data that remembers where you stopped.

Default book folder Aldiko scans and imports from. Positions and shelves live in app-private storage, so copy the eBooks folder for the files and use any in-app backup for the rest. SD card locations vary by device.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add my own books to Aldiko?

Copy EPUB or PDF files into the eBooks folder and open Aldiko. It scans the folder on launch. Files placed elsewhere stay invisible until moved into a scanned location.

Will I lose my reading positions if I reinstall Aldiko?

The books survive if you saved the eBooks folder, but positions and shelves live in app data that uninstalling deletes. Back up the folder first, then check Aldiko's own backup options for the metadata before wiping.
