Where Does AnythingLLM Desktop Store Data?
AnythingLLM Desktop keeps documents, vector data, models and its database in one storage folder. Paths for Windows, Mac and Linux.

AnythingLLM Desktop puts the whole world in a single storage directory. Uploaded documents, the LanceDB vector tables, embedding cache, downloaded GGUF models and the anythingllm.db SQLite database all sit below it.
That makes backup simple: the storage folder is the app. Docker installs differ only in that you mount a host folder to /app/server/storage, so the same tree persists outside the container between rebuilds.
Where AnythingLLM stores this, by platform
%APPDATA%\anythingllm-desktop\storage
Contains documents, lancedb, vector-cache, models and anythingllm.db. Local models go in storage\models\downloaded as .gguf files to appear in the picker.
~/Library/Application Support/anythingllm-desktop/storage
Same internal layout as Windows. Quit the app before copying the folder for backup so the SQLite database is not mid write.
~/.config/anythingllm-desktop/storage
Same tree again. Docker setups instead bind a host directory, often ~/anythingllm, to /app/server/storage and must chown it to UID 1000 first.
Frequently asked questions
where do i put a GGUF model for AnythingLLM?
In the models/downloaded folder inside storage. Only .gguf files placed there become selectable in the interface, on desktop and in Docker alike.
how do i back up AnythingLLM Desktop?
Copy the entire storage folder with the app closed. The database, uploaded files, embeddings and local models all travel together, so a single copy is a complete backup.
