Where Does Apostrophe Store Settings?
Where Apostrophe keeps all of its prefs inside dconf on Linux, and how to back them up without a file.
Last updated
Apostrophe keeps preferences in the dconf database rather than any text file. Color scheme, spellcheck and scroll sync each own a key under the app schema path. The binary backing store next to it is never hand edited.
System schema definitions ship separately from user values for validation. Flatpak installs follow the same schema with sandboxed storage underneath. Dump and load commands move settings between machines. Preview panes share the dconf keys, so one dump covers every toggle. Dump the schema path for backups.

dconf schema path with every option as a key. No text config exists. Dump to a file for backup, never edit the binary store.
Frequently asked questions
How do I back up Apostrophe settings?
Run the dconf dump command for the app schema path and save the output to a text file. Restore with the matching load command on the new machine. The binary backing store is never edited by hand.
Where is the Apostrophe config file?
There is none. Every option lives in the dconf database under the app schema path. Use the settings editor or gsettings commands to change values. Guides naming an ini file describe other editors.
