Where Does Apple Intelligence Store Models?
Apple Intelligence models ship as system assets on Mac with per-user caches beside them. Paths and version caveats.
Last updated
Apple does not document a models folder, and the paths below come from community findings on macOS 15 rather than official docs. System model assets sit under the AssetsV2 tree as MobileAsset bundles, with separate entries for language and visual models. Point releases move them, so treat any literal hash as an example.
Day to day caches sit in your home Library next to them. Those Caches folders hold working state for intelligence and Siri features. The whole system tree is SIP protected, so browsing needs no special steps but modifying it is blocked. There is no supported iOS file path at all.
Where Apple Intelligence stores this, by platform
/System/Library/AssetsV2/com_apple_MobileAsset_UAF_FM_GenerativeModels
System model assets as of macOS 15.1, with purpose_auto subfolders beneath. Mirrors appear under /private/var/db/MobileAsset and /Library/Apple. Per-user state sits in ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.intelligence and ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.siri. Paths shift between releases; no iOS path is documented.
Frequently asked questions
Can I delete Apple Intelligence models to save space?
Not through a supported control. The assets live in the SIP protected system tree and reinstall with updates. Disabling Apple Intelligence in Settings stops use without freeing the system files. Per-user caches in ~/Library/Caches clear on their own.
Where is Apple Intelligence data on iPhone?
Apple publishes no iOS file path. On-device models and caches stay sandboxed and undisclosed, reachable only through Settings and in-app controls. Any guide naming a /var/mobile path for this is guessing or describing jailbroken devices.
Why do the model paths keep changing?
Apple ships models as versioned MobileAsset bundles, and each OS update can rename the hash folders. Community tables go stale within a release or two. Use the AssetsV2 prefix as the search root rather than bookmarking one full path.
