Where Does Atril Store Settings?
Atril keeps preferences in dconf under the MATE path. Inspect and back them up with dconf tools.
Last updated
Atril, MATE's Evince fork, stores preferences in the dconf database rather than any config file. The tree lives under the MATE path, holding sidebar state, zoom defaults, and print settings.
There is nothing to copy as a file. Dump the tree with dconf dump for backup and reload it with dconf load on the new machine. Reset a single misbehaving option with dconf reset instead of wiping the whole branch.
Where Atril stores this, by platform
dconf database: /org/mate/atril/
All preferences in dconf, viewable in dconf Editor. Back up with dconf dump /org/mate/atril/ and restore with dconf load. No flat files exist, so file based dotfile sync skips it by design.
Frequently asked questions
How do I back up Atril settings?
Run dconf dump /org/mate/atril/ to a text file and keep it with your dotfiles. Restore with dconf load on the new machine. Copying files cannot work because dconf is a binary database, not documents.
How do I reset Atril to defaults?
Run dconf reset -f /org/mate/atril/ with Atril closed. Every preference returns to default while your PDFs stay untouched. Reset single keys the same way when only one option misbehaves.
