Where Does Caja Store Settings and Bookmarks?
MATE's Caja keeps preferences in dconf under /org/mate/caja with bookmarks in ~/.config/gtk-3.0/bookmarks, editable via dconf Editor or gsettings.

Caja follows MATE conventions: behavior in dconf, places in a shared bookmarks file. The dconf tree at /org/mate/caja holds views, previews, and medium handling. Gsettings reads and writes it from scripts when the GUI feels slow.
Bookmarks need no MATE specific knowledge. They use the freedesktop bookmarks file that GTK apps share, so skills transfer straight from Nemo or Thunar. Back up the dconf branch plus the bookmarks file and the whole file manager setup moves machines.
Where Caja stores this, by platform
dconf /org/mate/caja
All Caja preferences as dconf keys. Inspect and reset with gsettings. Script bulk changes instead of clicking through dialogs.
~/.config/gtk-3.0/bookmarks
Places shared with GTK dialogs, one URI per line. Hand editable and instant. Covers Caja, Nemo, and Thunar at once.
Frequently asked questions
How do I inspect Caja settings?
Browse /org/mate/caja in dconf Editor or run gsettings list-recursively org.mate.caja. Reset a misbehaving branch with gsettings reset-recursively. View defaults, sort order, and thumbnail rules all live here.
Where are Caja bookmarks stored?
Open ~/.config/gtk-3.0/bookmarks, one file URI per line, shared with GTK file dialogs. Edit in Caja or by hand. The same file serves Nemo and Thunar places, so one edit travels.
