Where Does Backpack Store Wallet Data?
Backpack encrypts multichain keys locally on every platform, with the seed phrase as the only backup.
Last updated
Backpack stores encrypted keys locally on each platform: the browser extension under ID aflkmfhebedbjioipglgcbcmnbpgliof, mobile apps in system storage, and a native desktop build besides. Fourteen chains derive from one 12-word phrase, which Backpack never sees or stores.
Sync between devices runs on encrypted cloud backup or plain phrase import, your choice. Extension folders copy like any Chromium wallet, with the browser closed and files untouched. Lose the phrase and every platform copy becomes a locked box with no key.
Where Backpack stores this, by platform
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Local Extension Settings\aflkmfhebedbjioipglgcbcmnbpgliof
Backpack vault under its store ID; confirm the ID on the store page first. One phrase covers all chains. Files copy for rescue; phrase migrates for moves.
~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/Default/Local Extension Settings/aflkmfhebedbjioipglgcbcmnbpgliof
Same extension-ID folder on macOS. Mobile and desktop apps keep keys in system storage with phrase import as the sync path.
~/.config/google-chrome/Default/Local Extension Settings/aflkmfhebedbjioipglgcbcmnbpgliof
Same extension-ID folder under the Chrome config root. Native desktop app available as an alternative to the extension.
Frequently asked questions
I lost my Backpack password. Can I recover without the phrase?
Reinstall and import the 12-word phrase. Backpack stores nothing server-side, so no support ticket recovers funds. The phrase is the wallet; everything else is convenience.
Does one Backpack phrase cover all chains?
Yes. Import the same phrase on the new device and every chain restores: Solana, Ethereum, Bitcoin and the rest derive from the one seed. Old device copies keep working until wiped.
