Where Does Phantom Store Wallet Data on Desktop?
Phantom encrypts keys inside the browser profile under its extension ID, with mobile keys in system storage.
Last updated
Phantom keeps its encrypted keys inside the browser profile, under Local Extension Settings\bfnaelmomeimhlpmgjoalmldpgopdjdpn on Chrome. The layout mirrors every Chromium wallet: LevelDB files holding the encrypted vault, readable only with your password. Edge, Brave and Opera follow the same pattern with their own profile roots.
The recovery phrase is still the supported backup, now joined by optional email wallets secured with a PIN. Mobile apps store keys in the system keychain or keystore, outside any user folder. If you reset the app from settings, local data goes immediately, so confirm your backup first.
Where Phantom stores this, by platform
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Local Extension Settings\bfnaelmomeimhlpmgjoalmldpgopdjdpn
Phantom extension vault under its store ID. Edge, Brave and Opera use the same folder name under their own profile roots. Copy with the browser closed.
~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/Default/Local Extension Settings/bfnaelmomeimhlpmgjoalmldpgopdjdpn
Same extension-ID folder on macOS. Confirm the profile path at chrome://version first if you run multiple Chrome profiles.
~/.config/google-chrome/Default/Local Extension Settings/bfnaelmomeimhlpmgjoalmldpgopdjdpn
Same extension-ID folder under the Chrome config root. Firefox variant uses its own profile storage instead of this path.
Frequently asked questions
Can I recover a Phantom wallet from an old hard drive?
Yes, if you still have the profile folder and remember the password. Copy the extension-ID folder with the browser closed, then use a vault recovery tool offline. Without the password or the phrase, there is no fallback.
What does Reset App in Phantom settings do?
It wipes the local wallet and disconnects every session, which is the correct first step on a shared or compromised machine. You restore afterward with the recovery phrase or your email login plus PIN.
