Where Does Bamboo Store Home and Config?

Bamboo keeps everything in its home dir: bamboo.cfg.xml, xml-data builds, and database. Init properties point at it.

Last updated

Bamboo splits install from home. The install dir holds the app plus bamboo-init.properties, which names the home directory. The home dir holds bamboo.cfg.xml (database wiring), xml-data (build results, working checkouts, server configuration), the embedded H2 database/ folder when used, logs, plugins, and artifacts. Data Center adds a shared-home sibling for clustered nodes.

Backups mean the home dir (plus shared home on DC) and the database when external. H2 suits evaluation only; production runs Postgres or similar outside the folder. Agents keep their own bamboo-agent-home with agent ids and build dirs, so fleet restores cover both halves. Keep home out of the install tree or upgrades eat it.

Where Bamboo stores this, by platform

Linux
<bamboo-home> (home directory)

bamboo.cfg.xml plus xml-data builds, database/, logs, plugins. Named by bamboo-init.properties in the install dir. Data Center adds shared-home. Keep home outside the install tree always.

Frequently asked questions

how do i back up bamboo

Copy the whole bamboo-home dir (bamboo.cfg.xml, xml-data, database/, logs) with Bamboo stopped, plus the install dir pointer file. Agents back up separately via bamboo-agent-home. Restore to identical paths or update bamboo-init.properties.

can the bamboo home live inside the install dir

Never inside the install dir. Upgrades overwrite it and wipe embedded homes. Keep home fully separate from day one; bamboo-init.properties in the install tree is the only link between the two.
