Where Is the Basilisk Profile Folder?

Basilisk browser profile folders on Windows and Linux, following the Moonchild Productions layout.

Last updated

Basilisk shares the Moonchild Productions profile layout with Pale Moon. Windows splits profiles between Roaming AppData for live data and a Local AppData twin for cache, while Linux uses a dot directory with literal spaces in its name. A profiles.ini file beside the Profiles folder maps names to paths.

The about:profiles page removes all guesswork by labeling each profile's Root and Local directories for the running instance. Bookmark it before any migration or cleanup, since the twin folder design means deleting the wrong side either wipes your logins or accomplishes nothing.

Where Basilisk stores this, by platform

Windows
%APPDATA%\Moonchild Productions\Basilisk\Profiles

Live data in Roaming, cache twin under %LOCALAPPDATA%\Moonchild Productions\Basilisk\Profiles. Back up the Roaming side. profiles.ini sits one level above the Profiles folders.

Linux
~/.moonchild productions/basilisk

Quote the path in terminals because of the literal spaces. profiles.ini lives here mapping profile names. Same Root versus Local split as Windows, shown on about:profiles.

Frequently asked questions

how do i move a basilisk profile to a new pc

Quit Basilisk, copy the profile folder plus profiles.ini, and fix the Path lines to match the new machine. Keep the relative layout under the Basilisk folder so IsRelative entries keep resolving.

root versus local directory in basilisk

Root is the live profile with bookmarks, logins and history. Local is the disposable cache twin for the same profile. Back up Root for migrations and let Local rebuild itself. Both show on the about:profiles page.
