Where Does Bitvise SSH Client Store Profiles?

Bitvise SSH Client saves connections as .tlp profile files you place yourself, with global options in the Windows registry.

Last updated

Bitvise splits storage in two. Each connection you save becomes a .tlp (or .bscp) profile file in a folder you pick, Documents by convention. Global client options live separately in the registry under the Bitvise key.

This split decides backups. Copy the profile files for your servers. Export the registry key only if you customized global behavior like proxy defaults or window layout. Portable use is easy too: keep profiles in a synced folder and pass the path at launch.

Where Bitvise SSH Client stores this, by platform

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\Documents (Bitvise .tlp profiles)

Profile files (.tlp/.bscp) live wherever you save them; Documents is the convention. Global options sit in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Bitvise. Launch with -profile=path to pin a profile.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move Bitvise profiles to a new PC?

Copy your .tlp files to the new machine and double-click one to open it in Bitvise. Re-enter stored passwords if they were not saved with encryption enabled.

How do I save passwords in Bitvise profiles?

Open a profile, check Store encrypted password, and save. The password then lives inside the .tlp file, so guard that file like any other credential.
