Where Does Btrfs Assistant Store Its Config?
Btrfs Assistant main config file, Snapper configs and where Btrfs snapshots land on Linux.
Last updated
Btrfs Assistant itself holds almost no state. Its one config file points at the real tools: Snapper for snapshots and btrfsmaintenance for scrub, balance and defrag schedules. The path is hardcoded, so there is no per-user copy.
Everything needs root. Edit with an admin editor. A claim floating around about a ~/.config copy is wrong. The source reads /etc/btrfs-assistant.conf directly.
Where Btrfs Assistant stores this, by platform
/etc/btrfs-assistant.conf
Hardcoded main config holding snapper and btrfsmaintenance paths. Requires root to edit. Snapper per-config files live in /etc/snapper/configs, snapshots under /.snapshots or /home/.snapshots. OpenSUSE uses /etc/sysconfig/btrfsmaintenance for the maintenance defaults.
Frequently asked questions
Where are my Snapper snapshots?
Open /etc/snapper/configs to see which subvolumes Snapper tracks. Snapshots for each config sit in a .snapshots folder at the subvolume root, typically /.snapshots or /home/.snapshots, with an info.xml per snapshot.
Btrfs Assistant cannot find snapper. How do I fix it?
Edit /etc/btrfs-assistant.conf as root and fix the paths to snapper and the btrfsmaintenance defaults file. OpenSUSE based systems use /etc/sysconfig/btrfsmaintenance instead of /etc/default/btrfsmaintenance.
