Where Does the Windows Camera App Save Photos?
Where the Windows Camera app saves photos and videos by default, and how to relocate the roll.
Last updated
Windows Camera points at the Camera Roll folder under Pictures: every photo and video lands there with a timestamped name. Quality, framing and timer options live separately in the app package state.
OneDrive can relocate Pictures, which moves the roll with it. Check the actual roll path in File Explorer before scripting backups. Package state rarely matters; captures are the backup target. Burst shots group into subfolders by session.

Finished photos and videos under Pictures. OneDrive moves Pictures when backup is on, so confirm the live path. Settings live in package LocalState.
Frequently asked questions
How do I change where the Camera app saves?
Open Settings, System, Storage, and change where new photos save, or move the Camera Roll folder properties to a new path. New captures follow the change; old ones stay put until you move them by hand.
What should I back up from the Camera app?
The roll holds finished captures while package state holds settings. Back up the roll for memories, the package folder for options. Timelapse and slow motion clips land in the same roll.
