Where Are Celeste Save Files Located?
Celeste Saves folder beside the install on Windows, the standard paths on Mac and Linux, and the three slot files.
Last updated
Celeste keeps saves in a Saves folder, but its location depends on the build. Windows store installs put it right beside the game executable, which surprises anyone looking in Documents or AppData. Mac and Linux use the standard per OS application support paths instead.
Three save slots map to numbered .celeste files, with settings.celeste holding options alongside them. Steam Cloud covers the saves. Everest mods read the same folder, so modded and vanilla progress share slots whether you want them to or not.
Where Celeste stores this, by platform
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Celeste\Saves
Example Steam path; GOG and itch builds keep Saves beside their own exe the same way. Slot files are numbered 0 to 2, with settings.celeste beside them. The Store version instead uses its Packages container.
~/Library/Application Support/Celeste/Saves
Standard Mac location rather than beside the app. Use Go to Folder in Finder since Library stays hidden.
~/.local/share/Celeste/Saves
Follows the XDG data home. Slot files transfer cleanly between platforms since the format is identical everywhere.
Frequently asked questions
How many save slots does Celeste have?
Three, stored as numbered .celeste files from 0 to 2. Back up the whole Saves folder rather than one file, since settings.celeste and unlock data travel with the slots.
Do Everest mods use separate saves?
No, mods read the same Saves folder and slots. Keep a dated copy of the folder before installing mods, since a bad mod can corrupt a slot both versions share.
