Where Does Celluloid Store Settings?

Where Celluloid keeps its settings on Linux, and how mpv config files plug into it.

Last updated

Celluloid is a GTK frontend over mpv, so config splits two ways: mpv behavior in ~/.config/mpv (mpv.conf, input.conf) and Celluloid UI prefs in dconf. Playlist and window state follow the app side.

That split guides backups. Copy the mpv folder for portable playback tuning that any frontend honors. Export the dconf branch only if you care about Celluloid-specific chrome. Most fixes live on the mpv side.

Where Celluloid stores this, by platform

Linux
~/.config/celluloid/

mpv behavior read by Celluloid (mpv.conf, input.conf). Celluloid UI prefs live in dconf, exportable via dconf dump. Flatpak paths nest under the app sandbox.

Frequently asked questions

How do I tune playback with mpv options?

Edit ~/.config/mpv/mpv.conf and input.conf directly; Celluloid reads them on launch. In-app preferences write to its own dconf profile, so keep heavy tuning in mpv files where it is portable across frontends.

Where are Celluloid preferences themselves?

Celluloid stores window state and preferences via dconf/GSettings rather than flat files. Use dconf dump /io/github/celluloid_player/Celluloid/ to export, and dconf load to restore. mpv-side files stay plain text beside it.
