Where Does Cider Store Config and Cache?

Cider config, cache and login data folders on Windows, macOS and Linux.

Last updated

Cider keeps config.json, logs, cache and login state together in one per-OS folder. The layout matches across desktop systems with only the root changing.

Windows Store installs complicate this. The app payload sits under WindowsApps where users cannot browse it. Settings still live in Roaming, so target that folder for backup and reset work.

Where Cider stores this, by platform

Windows
%AppData%\Cider

Holds config.json, logs, cache and login state. Store builds keep payload under WindowsApps, largely inaccessible. Leftovers can sit in %LocalAppData%\Programs\cider and %LocalAppData%\cider-updater.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Cider

Same contents as other platforms. Use Go to Folder in Finder since Library is hidden.

Linux
~/.config/Cider

Same contents as other platforms. Follows XDG config home convention.

Frequently asked questions

How do I back up Cider?

Close Cider and copy the whole Cider folder for your OS elsewhere. Restoring means replacing the folder before launch. Keep a spare copy until playlists and login survive a restart.

How do I fully wipe Cider for a clean install?

A clean install removes the data folder above plus leftovers in LocalAppData Programs and the cider-updater folder. The Store build also leaves its WindowsApps entry. Check all three when login state survives an uninstall.
