Where Does ComicRack Store Its Library Database?

ComicRack Windows library XML files in AppData and where comic files live.

Last updated

ComicRack keeps metadata and files apart. Your comics (CBR, CBZ, PDF) stay in whatever folders you organized. The library itself, read state, lists, custom fields and scraping results, is two XML files in the roaming AppData folder.

That split makes backups simple and migrations brittle in one specific way. Copy the XML pair and the app restores its brain, but only if the comic folders land at identical paths. Moved drives break every link at once, so fix paths before rescraping metadata you already had.

Where ComicRack stores this, by platform

Windows
%APPDATA%\cYo\ComicRack

Holds ComicRack.xml (settings) and ComicDb.xml (the library). Back up both with the app closed. Comics themselves are referenced in place; the database stores paths, not the files.

Frequently asked questions

how do I move ComicRack to a new PC

Copy the comic folders to identical paths, install ComicRack, then restore %APPDATA%\cYo\ComicRack\ComicDb.xml and ComicRack.xml with the app closed. Open and confirm lists and read state before rescanning anything.

why is my ComicRack library empty after moving drives

The XML stores absolute paths, so a new drive letter orphans every entry. Put the files back at the old paths or edit the stored roots, then restart. Rescanning from scratch loses custom edits and read tracking.
