Where Are Command & Conquer Remastered Save Files Located?

C&C Remastered splits saves into Steam userdata while custom maps, replays and mods live in Documents.

Last updated

Command & Conquer Remastered keeps campaign saves and player settings in <Steam>\userdata\<SteamID>\1213210\remote\save_game. That folder also holds the Player_TD and Player_RA settings files, so one copy preserves progress and options together.

Everything you create or download lives elsewhere. Custom maps, replays and user mods go in Documents\CnCRemastered, while Workshop subscriptions cache under %appdata%\CnCRemastered. The Documents folder looks empty on a fresh install, which fools people into thinking saves live there. They do not.

Campaign saves plus player settings .bin files. Documents\CnCRemastered holds custom maps, replays and mods instead. Steam Cloud syncs the userdata side. Prune old quick saves when the load menu slows down.

Frequently asked questions

The load menu takes forever to open. How do I clean it up?

Search userdata for *.sav and delete the extras. Every quick save creates a new file, and hundreds of them slow the load menu to a crawl. Keep one per mission plus your latest.

My settings are corrupted and the game crashes. What now?

Delete Player_TD_settings_1.bin and Player_RA_settings_1.bin in the remote folder. The game regenerates both on next launch, which clears most settings corruption instantly.
