Where Does CoolReader Store Settings?
CoolReader keeps settings in cr3.ini under ~/.cr3 on Linux (~/cr3 elsewhere), with books wherever you put them.
Last updated
CoolReader stores its settings in the classic old-school way: an ini file in a dot folder in your home directory. The cr3.ini file carries fonts, margins, key bindings, and recent-book lists. Style sheets beside it adjust rendering per ebook format.
Books are deliberately separate. CoolReader opens files from anywhere and only records where they were, so the library is your folders, not its database. Back up the settings folder for preferences and your book folders for content; neither implies the other.
Where CoolReader stores this, by platform
~/.cr3/cr3.ini
cr3.ini for settings plus CSS files for per-format rendering tweaks. Copy the folder to migrate preferences; books travel separately from wherever you stored them.
%USERPROFILE%\cr3\cr3.ini
Same role as the Linux dot folder, different name. Portable installs keep settings beside the binary instead; check there first on USB setups.
~/cr3/cr3.ini
Same cr3 folder convention under the home directory. The data subfolder holds style sheets shared across platforms.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the main settings file?
Edit cr3.ini in the .cr3 folder (or cr3 folder on other platforms). It holds font, style, and key settings as plain text, plus paths to the CSS files that fine-tune rendering per format.
How do I migrate CoolReader settings?
Copy the .cr3 folder contents to the matching spot on the new machine. Books themselves live wherever you stored them, so move the library separately and re-point the reader.
