Where Does Coqui TTS Store Downloaded Models?

Coqui TTS downloads models into a tts data folder (per-OS default), movable via TTS_HOME or XDG_DATA_HOME.

Last updated

Coqui TTS keeps every downloaded voice under one tts/ data folder whose parent follows the OS: local share on Linux, Application Support on Mac, Local app data on Windows. Model files, vocoders and fairseq downloads all pool there.

Two env vars relocate it. TTS_HOME wins outright; XDG_DATA_HOME shifts the base the tts/ folder hangs off. Set either before the first download, since nothing moves already fetched models for you.

Where Coqui TTS stores this, by platform

Windows
%LOCALAPPDATA%\tts

Downloaded checkpoints, vocoders and configs. Shown by tts --list_models. Relocate with TTS_HOME or XDG_DATA_HOME before downloading; existing files stay put.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/tts

Same tts/ contents. The maintained fork (coqui-tts on PyPI) replaced the original TTS package; paths are identical between them.

Linux
~/.local/share/tts

Same layout under ~/.local/share/tts by default. Multi-gigabyte XTTS and Bark models make this folder the first thing to check when disk fills.

Frequently asked questions

Where did my Coqui model actually download to?

Run tts --list_models: it prints the active model path. Defaults are ~/.local/share/tts on Linux, ~/Library/Application Support/tts on Mac, %LOCALAPPDATA%/tts on Windows.

My system drive is full. How do I move Coqui models?

Set TTS_HOME (or XDG_DATA_HOME) before downloading. The tts/ suffix appends automatically, so point the variable at the parent, not at tts/ itself.
