Last updated
Counter-Strike 2 keeps personal settings in two places. Steam userdata for AppID 730 holds cross machine settings like video and keybinds. The game install folder holds autoexec.cfg and custom cfgs you add yourself. Both use a cfg subfolder, which causes mixups.
The userdata path includes your numeric Steam ID and a 730 folder, so it differs per account. Use the in game settings menu for most tweaks. Hand edit cfgs only with the game closed, then launch once to let Steam Cloud sync upward.
Where Counter-Strike 2 stores this, by platform
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\[SteamID]\730\local\cfg
Holds cs2_video.txt and similar files. Custom cfgs live in Steam\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Global Offensive\game\csgo\cfg. Replace the Steam root if your library moved.
~/.steam/steam/userdata/[SteamID]/730/local/cfg
Same 730 layout as Windows. Game cfgs are under steamapps/common/Counter-Strike Global Offensive/game/csgo/cfg in your Linux Steam library.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I put autoexec.cfg for CS2?
In the game cfg folder: steamapps/common/Counter-Strike Global Offensive/game/csgo/cfg. Add +exec autoexec.cfg to launch options if it does not run on its own.
Why do my CS2 settings keep resetting?
Steam Cloud is overwriting your local edits. Close the game, make the change, relaunch once to let it sync upward. Conflicting edits from two PCs cause the same loop.
