Where Are Darkest Dungeon Save Files Located?

The original Darkest Dungeon files campaign slots as numbered profiles in a Documents folder, per Red Hook support.

Last updated

Red Hook's support pages map both games without ambiguity. The original keeps numbered profile folders in Documents, each profile a full campaign state with roster, hamlet, and darkest missions.

Profile numbering follows slot order rather than names, so label backups by date. Steam Cloud mirrors these folders, which rescues reinstalls but also overwrites local edits when sync disagrees. Copy with the game closed either way.

Where Darkest Dungeon stores this, by platform

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Darkest

Profile_0 is the first campaign slot and so on. OneDrive variants of Documents split the location the same way other games suffer.

Frequently asked questions

How do I back up my hamlet?

Copy the profile folders to the same path with Steam Cloud on. Profile_0 is slot one, Profile_1 slot two, and so on. New Game Plus shares the same numbering inside its own mode folder.

Is Darkest Dungeon II in the same place?

The sequel stores saves in LocalLow instead, a completely different tree. The two games share nothing, so back up each from its own documented location.
