Where Does Dash Store DocSets?

Dash offline docset library and preferences file paths on macOS for the documentation browser app use.

Last updated

Dash keeps offline docs in a DocSets folder. The default root is ~/Library/Application Support/Dash/DocSets with one folder per language. Each docset carries its own search index.

Preferences live in ~/Library/Preferences/com.kapeli.dash.plist with license and layout. Custom docset paths override the default in Downloads settings. Back up DocSets with the plist. The docs dominate size while the plist is tiny. Redownload individual sets instead of full restores. Snippet fallbacks share the same library root. Syncing DocSets via cloud causes index churn.

Where Dash stores this, by platform

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Dash/DocSets

One folder per docset with search indexes inside. Change the path under Preferences Downloads to relocate. Copy whole tree for offline moves.

Frequently asked questions

where are Dash docsets stored

Open Preferences, Downloads to read the docset path. Defaults sit in Application Support with one folder per docset. Move the folder then update the path and restart Dash.

how do i move Dash to a new Mac

Copy the DocSets folder with the preferences plist. Docsets hold the offline docs, the plist holds licenses and layout. That pair restores the setup. Keep the plist safe.
