Where Does DBeaver Store Connections and Settings?

DBeaver stores connections, scripts and drivers in a DBeaverData folder. The official paths for Windows, macOS and Linux.

Last updated

DBeaver keeps everything in one place: a DBeaverData folder whose workspace6 subfolder holds connections, scripts, diagrams and settings. Drivers land in a drivers sibling, credentials in a secure sibling. Know the DBeaverData path for your OS and you can back up or migrate the whole tool in one copy.

The one historical wrinkle is the old .dbeaver4 location from versions before 6.1.3. It still sits in home folders years later and confuses people into editing dead files. If your install is current, DBeaverData is the live one. You can also point DBeaver anywhere with File, Switch workspace, or the -data command line flag.

Where DBeaver stores this, by platform

Windows
%APPDATA%\DBeaverData\workspace6

workspace6 holds connections and scripts; drivers, secure and settings sit beside it. Pre-6.1.3 installs used %USERPROFILE%\.dbeaver4 instead. Use File, Switch workspace to relocate, or pass -data <path> on the command line.

macOS
~/Library/DBeaverData/workspace6

Same DBeaverData layout as Windows, just rooted in ~/Library. Pre-6.1.3 installs used ~/.dbeaver4. Copying workspace6 between Macs works, but let DBeaver recreate drivers on first launch rather than copying that folder too.

Linux
~/.local/share/DBeaverData/workspace6

~/.local/share is the default for $XDG_DATA_HOME; if you set XDG_DATA_HOME, DBeaverData follows it. Pre-6.1.3 installs used ~/.dbeaver4. The -data flag and File, Switch workspace work identically on Linux.

Frequently asked questions

how do i move dbeaver to a new computer

Copy the workspace6 folder to the matching DBeaverData location on the new machine before first launch. Connections, scripts, diagrams and ERDs come along. Saved passwords live in the secure folder and need your master password on the new machine to unlock.

where does dbeaver store saved passwords

In the secure subfolder next to workspace6, encrypted with your master password. Without the master password the entries are opaque blobs. Back up the secure folder together with workspace6, and write the master password down somewhere that is not the same drive.

what is the old dbeaver4 folder in my home directory

That is the pre-6.1.3 location from before DBeaver moved to DBeaverData. If you upgraded long ago, your live data is in DBeaverData now and the old folder is a fossil. Confirm the new folder has your connections, then delete the fossil to avoid editing the wrong files.
