Where Does DBngin Store Local Database Files?

DBngin keeps each local database server's data files in versioned folders under Application Support on Mac. Exact root below.

Last updated

DBngin runs local Postgres, MySQL, and Redis servers without installers, and their data files live in one Application Support tree. Each engine and version gets its own subfolder, so multiple Postgres majors coexist peacefully.

Treat those folders as live database storage, not archives. Stop the server before copying, and prefer SQL dumps for anything crossing versions or machines. Raw copies only suit identical setups.

Where DBngin stores this, by platform

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/DBngin

Per-engine, per-version data folders (e.g. postgres and redis trees). Stop servers before copying. Prefer dumps over raw copies when versions or Macs differ.

Frequently asked questions

How do I back up DBngin databases?

Copy the matching version folder to external storage with all servers stopped. Restore it to the same path on the new Mac before launching DBngin.

Should I copy DBngin data folders or dump databases?

Use each client's own dump tool (pg_dump and friends) for portable backups. Raw data folders only restore onto the same DBngin and server version.
