Where Does DevKinsta Store Site Files?

DevKinsta keeps site files in a DevKinsta folder in your home directory. Databases live inside Docker volumes, not beside the files.

Last updated

DevKinsta splits storage in two. Your WordPress files sit in a plain folder under your home directory, one subfolder per site. The database runs inside Docker, in the devkinsta_db container and its devkinsta_db_data volume. Kinsta warns that reinstalling Docker can delete the database, so exports matter.

The Site Path shown on each site info page is authoritative. Defaults follow the OS convention below, and you can change the parent in Settings. Nginx per site configs live in a nginx_sites folder inside the same parent.

Where DevKinsta stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\Users\<username>\DevKinsta\<sitename>

Default site files on Windows. Replace sitename with your site. The database is not here. It is in the devkinsta_db_data Docker volume.

Windows
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\DevKinsta

Application config and logs on Windows. The main.log here records site creation and pull operations.

macOS
/Users/<username>/DevKinsta/<sitename>

Default site files on Mac. Per site Nginx config sits in ~/DevKinsta/nginx_sites/<sitename>.conf.

macOS
/Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/DevKinsta

Application config on Mac. Site files stay in ~/DevKinsta as above.

Linux
/home/<username>/DevKinsta/<sitename>

Site files and config on Ubuntu, the only officially supported Linux distro. Change the parent folder in Settings if you prefer it elsewhere.

Frequently asked questions

How do I open my DevKinsta site folder?

Click the folder icon on the site info page. That opens the live Site Path. Defaults are listed below, but Settings can relocate the parent folder.

How do I back up a DevKinsta site?

Zip the site folder plus an Adminer SQL export together. The files alone are not enough, since the database is stored separately in Docker.
