Where Does Emma Store Financial Data?
Emma open banking connections, budgets and account synced data.
Last updated
Emma aggregates bank accounts through open banking into budgets, subscriptions tracking and payday planning on the account, with per device cache for offline views. Connections refresh on provider schedules.
Reconnecting after bank credential changes happens in-app per institution. The ledger (transactions, categories, budgets) lives server side; the phone holds views. Cancelling keeps exports as the exit path: pull statements and budgets before closing.
Where Emma stores this, by platform
Account cloud (ledger and connections; app holds synced cache)
Open banking consents renew per institution schedule. Reinstalling restores budgets and history on login. Export statements for a permanent archive outside the app.
Account cloud (same synced ledger on iPhone and iPad)
Same model with offline tolerant views. Premium tiers (Plus, Pro) follow the subscription. Deleting the app drops cache only.
Frequently asked questions
why are Emma transactions out of date
The bank connection needs reauthorization or the provider has not refreshed yet. Reconnect the institution in settings and wait a sync cycle. Manual accounts update only by hand.
does cancelling Emma delete my data
Export statements and budgets first; the account ledger is the canonical copy and local apps keep no permanent archive. Read the retention terms for the grace window.
