Where Does Enpass Store Vaults?

Enpass vault file on every OS, and the Store versus website split that locks the location.

Last updated

Enpass 6 keeps the encrypted vault at Documents\Enpass\Vaults\[vault-id]\vault.enpassdb on all desktop OSes (older and cloud sync copies used sync_default.walletx). Website builds relocate it in Settings, Advanced, Data Location.

Store builds lock it down: Microsoft Store and Mac App Store versions manage the container themselves, forbid custom paths, and delete data on uninstall. Sync never touches Enpass servers; each vault syncs through your own cloud, WiFi or folder sync, with .enpassbackup files as the restore route. Full reset means deleting both Documents\Enpass and the Roaming support folder.

Where Enpass stores this, by platform

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Enpass\Vaults\[vault-id]\vault.enpassdb

Website build default (relocatable in Advanced settings). Support data in %APPDATA%\Sinew Software Systems. Store version locks the container path and wipes on uninstall; sync first.

macOS
~/Documents/Enpass/Vaults/[vault-id]/vault.enpassdb

Website build, same relocatable behavior. App Store version locks to ~/Library/Containers/in.sinew.Enpass-Desktop with no custom path; uninstall via Launchpad plus container delete.

Linux
~/Documents/Enpass/Vaults/[vault-id]/vault.enpassdb

Website and Flathub builds (Flatpak needs documents permission). Relocatable; some users move it under ~/.local/share. Cloud copies named sync_default.walletx date from pre v6.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move my Enpass vault to a new computer?

Sync the vault to your cloud first (or copy vault.enpassdb plus .enpassbackup files), then open or restore on the new machine. Website builds also accept a straight Data Location repoint.

Enpass uninstalled and my vaults are gone. What now?

Store builds delete local data with the app. Restore from your cloud sync copy or a .enpassbackup file; website builds keep Documents\Enpass behind, so check there before panicking.
