Where Does AuthPass Store Vaults and Settings?
AuthPass stores vaults as .kdbx files wherever you keep them. App prefs follow XDG dirs; cloud sync is optional.
Last updated
AuthPass inverts the usual layout: the vault is a portable .kdbx file (KDBX 3 and 4) stored locally, on Drive/Dropbox/OneDrive/WebDAV, or AuthPass Cloud, entirely your choice. Desktop and mobile apps open the same file everywhere, with multi-database support for split work/personal setups. App preferences and caches follow platform conventions (XDG config/cache on Linux).
That portability is the backup story and the safety net. Any KeePass-compatible client opens the file, so app abandonment costs a UI switch. Biometric unlock and autofill integrate with OS keystores per device, which never roam with the file: expect to re-enroll biometrics on new hardware even with the vault copied over.
Where AuthPass stores this, by platform
(your chosen .kdbx location)
The vault itself, anywhere you save it. Sync via cloud or WebDAV for multi-device. App prefs in platform dirs (XDG on Linux). Any KDBX client opens the same file; back the file, nothing else.
Frequently asked questions
how do i back up my authpass vault
Copy the .kdbx file; that file is the vault, openable by KeePass, KeePassXC, KeeWeb, and AuthPass on any OS. Cloud copies (Drive, Dropbox, WebDAV, AuthPass Cloud) merge on save. Password plus keyfile loss has no recovery.
does authpass upload my passwords anywhere
Local-first. Vaults stay on device (and chosen cloud) by default; only opt-in AuthPass Cloud sharing moves bytes to their service. Biometric unlock stores the master secret in the OS Keystore/Keychain, never on a server.
