Where Does Ente Photos Store Photos and Cache?
Ente Photos encrypts everything server side and caches locally per app. Export originals from the app, not the cache.
Last updated
Ente Photos keeps the library encrypted on its servers and mirrors it into app caches. The cache layout is internal and version-dependent, so file copies mislead.
Account plus recovery key is the whole backup. New phones sync from zero without loss. For local archives, the in-app export writes originals properly.
Where Ente Photos stores this, by platform
/data/data/io.ente.photos
Encrypted thumbnails and offline cache. Internal layout, do not copy. Sync and export cover every need.
/var/mobile/Containers/Data/Application/<guid>/ (Ente container)
Same account-sync model. Export originals through settings for local archives.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move Ente Photos to a new phone?
Log in on the new phone and let it sync. Photos are end-to-end encrypted on Ente servers. Local caches rebuild themselves and never serve as backup.
How do I get originals out of Ente?
Use Export in app settings to write originals with metadata to a folder. Cache copies may skip originals and sidecars. Exports are the durable copy.
Where is the Locked Folder stored?
Locked Folder items stay encrypted in the same account with extra auth. They sync like the rest and export only after unlocking.
