Where Does Exodus Store Wallet Files and Backups?
Exodus keeps the encrypted wallet in an exodus.wallet folder, with timestamped backups kept beside it.
Last updated
Exodus stores its encrypted wallet in an exodus.wallet folder inside %APPDATA%\Exodus on Windows (~/Library/Application Support/Exodus on Mac, ~/.config/Exodus on Linux). The storage.seco files inside hold the encrypted keys, and a Backups folder beside it keeps timestamped archives of previous wallets.
The twelve-word phrase restores funds anywhere, while these files restore labels, history and settings. Mobile adds passkey backups into iCloud Drive or Google Drive, under an Exodus folder you should never rename. Export a zipped data folder from the Developer menu before any restore surgery.
Where Exodus stores this, by platform
%APPDATA%\Exodus
exodus.wallet holds encrypted storage.seco files; Backups holds timestamped archives. Use Developer > Data Folder > Export Zipped Data Folder before touching anything. The 12-word phrase restores funds; these files restore the rest.
~/Library/Application Support/Exodus
Same exodus.wallet and Backups layout. Reach it through Developer > Data Folder > Open Data Folder if Library stays hidden.
~/.config/Exodus
Same Electron layout as the other desktops. Mobile does not use this path; its encrypted backups live in iCloud Drive or Google Drive instead.
iCloud Drive/Exodus (DO NOT DELETE)/Backups
No browsable wallet file on the phone. Encrypted passkey backups sit in iCloud Drive under Exodus (DO NOT DELETE)/Backups. Never rename that folder.
Frequently asked questions
How do I restore an overwritten Exodus wallet?
Use Developer > Data Folder > Export Zipped Data Folder first, then work on a copy. Restoring means swapping an archived exodus.wallet folder into place with the app closed. Backups rotate, so old archives age out after 90 days.
Can I run the same Exodus wallet on desktop and mobile?
Yes. Restoring the same twelve words on a second device creates the same addresses on both. That convenience doubles exposure, so weigh it before linking a phone you carry everywhere.
