Where Does F-Droid Store Downloaded APKs?
F-Droid caches APKs in its private cache and optionally under Android/data/org.fdroid.fdroid. Enable Keep cached apps first.
Last updated
F-Droid keeps APKs in two spots and the visible one is optional. The private cache under /data/data always receives downloads but needs root to open. The shared folder under Android/data mirrors them only when Keep cached apps is on.
Most people look in the shared folder with the toggle off and conclude downloads vanish. They install straight from the private cache. Flip the toggle if you want installable copies you can copy elsewhere.
Where F-Droid stores this, by platform
/data/data/org.fdroid.fdroid/cache
Needs root. Per-repository APK cache. This is where downloads actually land during install.
/storage/emulated/0/Android/data/org.fdroid.fdroid/cache/apks
Visible without root once Keep cached apps is enabled. Check your file manager here before assuming root is required.
Frequently asked questions
Where are downloaded F-Droid APKs?
Turn on Keep cached apps in F-Droid settings, then look in /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/org.fdroid.fdroid/cache/apks with subfolders per repository. Without that toggle the cache clears after install.
How do I share an F-Droid app with an offline tablet?
Download the APK from f-droid.org in your browser instead. That copy lands in Download and you can share it freely. The client cache is a convenience, not a distribution route.
Why is the F-Droid folder empty?
The private tree at /data/data/org.fdroid.fdroid needs root. The shared path above does not, but it only fills when caching is enabled.
