Where Does FamiTracker Save FTM Files?

FamiTracker saves .ftm songs where you choose on Windows, with NSF export beside the project file.

Last updated

FamiTracker is a Windows only NES tracker. It has no project library. New songs start as Untitled and save as .ftm wherever you point File Save. Most composers keep a folder per game or album in Documents.

NSF, ROM, and DPCM exports go to the folder you pick at export time. The app stores only window and sound settings in the registry. Backing up means copying .ftm files plus any text exports you made.

No fixed song folder. Keep .ftm, exported .nsf, and DPCM samples together per project. Settings live in the registry, so file copy is enough for song backup.

Frequently asked questions

Where is my FamiTracker song after saving?

Exactly where the Save dialog pointed. Search for *.ftm in File Explorer if you clicked through fast. Pin your tunes folder to Quick Access to stop scattering projects across Downloads.

What should I back up for a FamiTracker project?

The .ftm file plus exported .nsf and any text export if you use FamiStudio import. DPCM samples embed in the .ftm, so separate sample backup is rarely needed.
