Where Does Fastmail Store Emails and Cache?

Fastmail mail lives on Fastmail servers with the app holding offline cache and downloads.

Last updated

Fastmail keeps mail, calendars, and contacts on its servers, with the phone holding an offline cache of folders and attachments you opened.

The cache is disposable. Reinstalling and logging back in restores every folder from the server, minus anything that never synced. Attachments worth keeping belong saved to storage deliberately; cached copies evaporate with the app.

Where Fastmail stores this, by platform

Android
Server mail (sync); app-private offline cache

Mail syncs from the server; the phone holds offline cache and drafts. Save keeper attachments to storage, then clear or reinstall freely.

iOS
Server mail (sync); app-private offline cache

Same server-first design. Offline folders rebuild on login, so reinstalls cost nothing but the unsynced tail.

Frequently asked questions

Do my emails survive a reinstall?

Synced mail returns on login. Only unsent drafts and un-downloaded attachments lag behind, so open drafts on Wi-Fi and let them send before wiping.
