Where Does FileZilla Store Saved Sites?
FileZilla sitemanager.xml and config paths on Windows, macOS and Linux, and how to sync sites between computers safely.
Last updated
FileZilla keeps saved sites and credentials in an XML file called sitemanager.xml inside a per OS config folder. Layouts, filters and the transfer queue live beside it as separate XML files. Nothing hides in the registry or the install folder.
Copy sitemanager.xml with FileZilla closed to move logins between machines. Symlinking it into Dropbox or Drive keeps fleets in sync, though passwords travel in recoverable form. Export through File > Export for readable archives alongside raw copies. The queue file beside sitemanager preserves unfinished transfers.
Where FileZilla stores this, by platform
%appdata%\FileZilla\sitemanager.xml
Paste into Explorer. Queue and layout XML files sit beside it. Copy the single sitemanager.xml file to transplant logins quickly.
~/.config/filezilla/sitemanager.xml
Older guides cite ~/.filezilla instead, so check both dotfolders. Use Go > Go to Folder in Finder to reach hidden paths.
~/.filezilla/sitemanager.xml
Newer builds may use ~/.config/filezilla instead. Whichever tree holds filezilla.xml beside it is the live one on your system.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move FileZilla sites to a new PC?
Close FileZilla on both ends, copy sitemanager.xml to the same location on the target, then reopen. Verify one login before deleting the old copy.
Are FileZilla passwords encrypted?
Weakly. Treat sitemanager.xml as secret material, keep synced copies in private storage, and prefer key based SSH logins where servers allow them.
