Where Does Flarum Store Config and Uploads?

Flarum stores config.php in public web root with storage and vendor beside it. Database holds the forum content.

Last updated

Flarum keeps a tiny PHP config at the web root with database credentials, URL, and debug flag. Everything else (users, posts, settings) lives in MySQL. Uploads and extension assets sit in the storage folder tree. Discussion search indexes rebuild from the database after restores.

Composer manages code in vendor while storage stays user data, so updates replace code only. The config file doubles as the migration key: same file plus DB dump restores anywhere with matching PHP. Cache clears live in storage subfolders.

Where Flarum stores this, by platform

Linux
/var/www/flarum/public/config.php

DB creds, URL, and debug flag. Written by the installer or by hand. Guard like a password.

Linux
/var/www/flarum/storage

Uploads, avatars, logs, and extension data. Archive with DB dumps. Never delete blindly, extensions store state here.

Frequently asked questions

How do I back up Flarum?

Dump MySQL and archive config.php plus storage together. Uploads, avatars, and extensions restore as one set with the dump.

Where is the Flarum config?

Copy the example to config.php in public root with DB creds and URL. The web installer writes it, but hand edits work the same.
