Where Does FLDigi Store Config and Logs?

FLDigi keeps everything in a fldigi.files working folder: prefs, definitions, macros, logs, and images. Find it via File menu.

Last updated

FLDigi centralizes into one working files folder created on first run. It arrives with prefs, definitions, frequencies, and a default macros file, then grows logs, images, and scripts subfolders as you operate. The manual lists the per OS roots explicitly.

Two files matter most. The prefs file records last used state and the def xml holds every configurable item; read but do not hand edit either. Custom macro sets save as extra mdf files in the macros folder. The temp subfolder is safe to empty between sessions.

Where FLDigi stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\Users\<username>\fldigi.files\fldigi.prefs

Full working folder on modern Windows. Holds prefs, def xml, macros, logs, images, and temp subfolders.

Linux
/home/<username>/.fldigi/fldigi.prefs

Working folder on Linux and Mac. Same internal layout as Windows. Override per instance with the config dir flag.

Linux
/home/<username>/.fldigi/macros/macros.mdf

Default macro definitions. Clone it for custom sets. The app loads the last used set on startup.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find the FLDigi working folder?

Start fldigi and pick File, Show config. That opens the live working folder on any OS, which beats memorizing per platform paths.

How do I move FLDigi to a new computer?

Copy the whole fldigi.files folder to the same location on the new machine. Macros, logs, and preferences travel as one unit.
