Where Does Focalboard Store Boards and Files?
Focalboard database file and attachment folder for personal server and Docker installs on every desktop OS.
Last updated
Focalboard keeps boards in a SQLite file and uploads beside it. Personal server installs default to a data folder with focalboard.db and a files subfolder for images. Docker installs mount the same pair at /data in the container.
Config lives in config.json next to the binary with port and database settings. Mattermost Boards users find the same layout inside the Boards plugin folder. Back up the database file with the files folder. The config can be rebuilt, the content cannot. Check Boards settings first since plugin paths vary.
Where Focalboard stores this, by platform
/data/focalboard.db
Default persistence root for Docker and personal server. Holds focalboard.db and the files folder. Mount a volume here to survive container replacement.
%APPDATA%\focalboard\focalboard.db
Same database and files layout on desktop installs. Check config.json for custom paths. Copy with the server stopped to avoid a locked write.
Frequently asked questions
what do i back up for a Focalboard move
Copy focalboard.db with the files folder beside it. The database holds boards and blocks, the files folder holds uploaded images. One without the other gives boards with broken thumbnails.
how do i find a custom Focalboard data folder
Open the server config.json and read data paths. Personal server defaults differ from Docker. The config file is the reliable pointer when guides disagree.
