Where Does Wekan Store Board Attachments?
Wekan board attachment folders for Docker and Snap installs on Linux, plus the database behind them.
Last updated
Wekan keeps card attachments on disk and everything else in MongoDB. Docker installs use /data inside the container for uploads with MongoDB in a separate volume. Snap installs keep everything under /var/snap/wekan/common on the host.
The exact subfolder holds .wekan or files directories depending on version, so check the running container before scripting backups. Snap upgrades preserve the common folder automatically. Docker users must mount a volume at /data or attachments vanish with the container.
Where Wekan stores this, by platform
/data (Wekan Docker)
Container persistence root for Docker installs. Mount a named volume here. Holds uploads and local config that must survive image updates.
/var/snap/wekan/common
Snap data root with database dumps, uploads, and snap settings. Preserved across snap refreshes. Copy the whole tree with Wekan stopped for migration.
Frequently asked questions
what do i back up for a Wekan move
Copy /data with a MongoDB dump for Docker, or /var/snap/wekan/common with a dump for Snap. Attachments sit beside the database dump in both layouts. One without the other leaves orphaned files.
can Wekan share attachments across servers
Yes. Set WRITABLE_PATH or the snap common folder to shared storage and point every node there. MongoDB still tracks metadata. This suits small high availability setups.
