Where Does FontBase Store Fonts and Settings?

FontBase manages a root folder of font files, defaulting to ~/FontBase, with app settings beside the install.

Last updated

FontBase organizes fonts through a root folder it watches. Collections reference files inside that tree rather than copying them elsewhere. The default root sits in your home folder unless you moved it in settings.

Activation works by temporarily loading files into the system, which leaves originals untouched. Moving the root breaks collections until the path updates. Back up the root folder with any custom collections for full migration.

Where FontBase stores this, by platform

macOS
~/FontBase

Default root folder for managed fonts. Collections reference files here by path. Update the root in settings after moving it.

Windows
C:\Users\[username]\FontBase

Same default root under your profile. Google Fonts sync lands here too. Exact settings layout may vary by FontBase release.

Frequently asked questions

Does FontBase copy my font files?

No. It references files inside its root folder and activates them temporarily. Originals stay where they are. Deleting from FontBase can remove the underlying file, so confirm prompts.

How do I move my FontBase library?

Move the root folder, then update the path in FontBase settings. Collections re resolve against the new location. Keep a backup before the move.
