Where Does Eagle Store Libraries?

Eagle keeps each library as a .library folder where you created it, with app config in Roaming AppData or Library.

Last updated

Eagle libraries are portable folders ending in .library that you place yourself, often under Documents or a design drive. Everything for that library (images, tags, metadata) lives inside. Move the folder and Eagle just needs to be pointed at the new spot.

App settings are separate and small. They sit in Roaming AppData on Windows and Application Support on Mac. Plugins live in their own managed folder. For team sync over Drive or Dropbox, sync the whole .library folder, never cherry picked files inside it.

Where Eagle stores this, by platform

Windows
User-chosen folder ([Name].library)

Example: D:\Eagle Libraries\My Design Library.library. App config in %APPDATA%\Eagle. Close Eagle before moving a library, then reopen it from the new path.

macOS
User-chosen folder ([Name].library)

Same portable layout. Config under ~/Library/Application Support/Eagle. Cloud sync works when the provider preserves package contents exactly, so let uploads finish before opening elsewhere.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move an Eagle library to another drive?

Close Eagle, copy the entire .library folder to the new drive, then open it from there in Eagle. Confirm tags and smart folders load before deleting the old copy.

Where are Eagle plugins installed?

In the managed plugins folder shown in Eagle support docs for your OS. Back up the .library folders first, since plugins reference library content rather than duplicating it.
