Where Does FRRouting Store Config?

FRRouting keeps per daemon conf files in /etc/frr with running state writable through vtysh.

Last updated

FRRouting splits config per routing daemon in /etc/frr. Files like bgpd.conf and ospfd.conf hold protocol settings while zebra.conf covers interfaces. The integrated frr.conf can replace them all on simple setups.

Vtysh writes back into these files on copy running to startup. Daemon enablement lives in /etc/frr/daemons beside them. Back up the whole folder since includes reference each other.

Linux
/etc/frr

Per daemon conf files plus daemons enablement live here. Vtysh persists running state back into them. Back up the folder as a set.

Frequently asked questions

How do I enable a routing daemon?

Flip it in the daemons file and add its conf file, then restart frr. Vtysh shows all daemons at once. Keep unused daemons disabled.

Why did my vtysh change vanish?

Running config needs copying to startup with the write command. Reloads read the files, not memory. Confirm persistence after every session.
