Where Does Loopback Store Device Configs?

Where Loopback keeps virtual device configs and how to reset them.

Last updated

Loopback stores virtual device definitions in Devices.plist under its Application Support folder. Sources, channel counts and monitor routing all serialize there, and devices persist system wide even with the app quit.

The Debugging window offers a Factory Reset button for the nuclear option. Prefer plist backups before hand edits since a malformed file costs you every device at once.

Where Loopback stores this, by platform

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Loopback/Devices.plist

Virtual device definitions with enabled flags per device. Back up before hand edits. Devices persist across restarts without the app running. Factory Reset lives in the Debugging window.

Frequently asked questions

How do I reset Loopback devices?

Quit Loopback and delete Devices.plist from its Application Support folder. The default Loopback Audio device recreates on next launch, which clears wedged routing faster than untangling channels.

Can I toggle Loopback devices from scripts?

Edit the enabled flags in Devices.plist while Loopback is closed, then relaunch. Community automation tools do exactly this for headless toggling, accepting a brief audio interruption on restart.
