Where Does Gamescope Store Settings?
How Gamescope stores settings: launch flags, not a config file.
Last updated
Gamescope keeps no persistent config file of its own. Resolution, refresh, scaling and HDR choices arrive as flags each launch, either typed in a terminal or set as Steam launch options per game.
That surprises file hunters expecting an ini. Version your launch strings in notes or scripts instead. SteamOS session mode wraps the flags in session files owned by the distro, which updates can rewrite.
Where Gamescope stores this, by platform
Steam launch options (no config file)
No config file exists by design; flags like -W -H -r -f carry every setting. Store launch strings per game in Steam Properties. Session wrappers on SteamOS own the global flags.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the Gamescope config file?
No. Gamescope takes all options as command line flags or Steam launch options (width, height, refresh, scaling, HDR). There is no ini or yaml to edit; scripts and launch strings are the config.
How do I set Gamescope options per game?
Put the flags in the Steam game Properties launch options on that game. Global session flags belong in the SteamOS session or your compositor autostart instead.
