Where Does Ghost Browser Store Profiles and Identities?

Where Ghost Browser keeps identities, workspaces and Chromium profiles. Not Ghost CMS.

Last updated

Ghost Browser is Chromium based, so everything sits in a GhostBrowser User Data tree: Default and numbered profiles with identities, workspaces, extensions and proxies. The vendor documents whole folder copies as the manual sync path.

Private Data Sync covers teams, but solo migrations mean file copies. Quit from the menu (not just closing windows) before touching the folder, and expect cookies to stay behind by design.

Where Ghost Browser stores this, by platform

Windows
%LOCALAPPDATA%\GhostBrowser\User Data\

Chromium User Data root with Default and numbered profiles. Manual sync means copying this folder with the browser fully quit. Trim GPUCache and File System per profile to shrink backups.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Ghost Browser/

Same identities and workspaces layout on Mac. Copy the whole folder from Application Support with Ghost quit. Cookies do not transfer, so fresh logins are expected.

Linux
~/.config/ghost-browser/

Follows the ghost-browser config home with Default profile inside. Close the browser before copying to avoid locked SQLite databases.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move Ghost Browser to a new computer?

Copy the whole User Data folder with Ghost fully quit, trimming GPUCache and File System from each profile first to shrink it. Rename the target copy as backup before pasting. Cookies stay behind for security, so plan fresh logins.

Is this the same as Ghost CMS?

Different product entirely. Ghost CMS is a publishing platform with its own data post on this site, while Ghost Browser is the Chromium browser for isolated sessions documented here. Check the app icon before following either guide.
