Where Does Gitfox Store Repositories and Settings?
Gitfox stores no repos itself. Clones live where you put them, with prefs in its Mac container and logins in Keychain.
Last updated
Gitfox never takes custody of your code. Cloned repositories live wherever you cloned them, and all history travels inside each repo's .git folder. Deleting Gitfox touches none of it.
What Gitfox does keep is its own preferences and repository list in its sandboxed Mac container, since it ships through the App Store, plus OAuth tokens for GitHub, GitLab, and Bitbucket in Keychain. Move machines by copying repos normally and signing into service accounts again.
Where Gitfox stores this, by platform
Your clone folders (repos) + ~/Library/Containers/ (Gitfox prefs)
Repos are yours wherever you cloned them, with full history in .git. App preferences sit in Gitfox's sandboxed container under Library/Containers. Service logins live in Keychain, so re-authenticate on a new Mac.
Frequently asked questions
Will uninstalling Gitfox delete my repositories?
No. Repos live in your own folders with history in .git, completely independent of the app. Only Gitfox's preferences and its container data go away. Reinstall and re-add the same folders.
How do I move Gitfox to a new Mac?
Copy your repository folders over and sign into service accounts fresh. Git history, branches, and stashes travel inside each repo automatically. Preferences rarely matter enough to migrate by hand.
